Castel San Lorenzo

Castel San Lorenzo is located in the "National Park of Cilento and Vallo di Diano" and it is part of the Montana Area of "Calore Salernitano". Is 26 km from Paestum and the coast of the Tyrrhenian Sea. The country was born probably in Lombard period and the specific "San Lorenzo" is linked to the presence in the area of a church dedicated to the saint. The municipality of Castel San Lorenzo is crossed "Calore" river, which stems from the slopes of Cervati Mount and whose going to Roccadaspide is tortuous and spectacular, and there are  races of canoeing. In some places it is rich in trout. The fauna is characterized by the presence of wild boars, foxes and pheasants. 

  

 

The local economy is based primarily on agriculture. Castel San Lorenzo is the main wine of the province of Salerno: his territory boasts of seven wines that have received the designation of origin (DOC).  

Important is also the production of olive oil quality that got the DOP, Protected Designation of Origin "Salernitane Hills."

  

 

The main attractions are the Calore river, whose waters are bathing, and woods (maquis and chestnut) of the National Park of Cilento and Vallo di Diano. With beautiful scenery and quality of the environment, Castel San Lorenzo was chosen by Legambiente as the seat of a campus that hosts international summer, every year, young people from around the world. Beautiful walks and excursions even on horseback.
